The USS Haven gathered on Wednesday night for our monthly meeting. There were close to 30 people that attended the meeting. The discussion included reports from past events and information about upcoming events.
The first report was on the baseball event in Tampa. Members traveled to Tampa to attend a Tampa Bay Rays Game for Star Trek Night. There were klingons and federation officers to entrain the crowd by posing for pictures and interacting with fans. Fans also received a foam hand that was shaped like the live long and prosper salute. I’m sure Spock would have had a smile on his face seeing that.
The second report came from Norm about the KinderCare event he did. This was an educational event that showcased the importance of STEM. The children learned about spaceships of today and tomorrow. These introductions to science and technology will plant the seed for children to be interested in these areas and become the next generation of engineers and astronauts .
The Haven will be traveling to Daytona Beach for the annual Klingon Feast. This is a great time for members to meet other Star Trek fans in the area. There are many activities at this event including battle simulations and a Banquet. The Haven will provide Pigs in Space for lunch on Saturday. there will will be hot dogs with all the toppings.
Members also discussed plans for the Star Trek Con next year in Las Vegas. Rusty provided information about the hotel and did mention that people have the opportunity to volunteer. Plans are still in the early stage but everyone is looking forward to it.
Overall, there was good food and great conversation. We look forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting.
